New apartments in Gdańsk’s Old Town
The source of the Old Town beats where stories, histories, dreams, hopes, and legends intersect. They are an inalienable feature of urban spaces. They speak through the smallest details that form a bridge between the rich heritage of the past and modernity, bold plans and even bolder desires. The Wodopój project stems from this very source — as a contemporary interpretation of history, which continues to add new chapters to the fabric of the Old Town.
Beyond the mainstream
Expectations for the Wodopój project were enormous, given the wide variety of visions for this place anchored in the collective consciousness. In the Wodopój building design, we find the source of a centuries-old tradition that strives to blend seamlessly into the contemporary character of the lively and vibrant city center. A place where different concepts and visions correspond with each other, entering into a subtle architectural dialogue with their surroundings.
Architecture
The architecture of Wodopój stems from the principle of integration. The building's structure organizes the historical parceling, reinterpreting the classic Gdańsk tenement house in a modern, slender form.
The structure gradually rises upwards, maintaining the proportions of the old tenement houses, but developing them vertically, as if the city itself wanted to reach further. The ground floor space opens up to pedestrians and the canal, creating a new urban passageway – a place for meetings, movement, and light. Wodopój is not a reconstruction of the old fabric, but its continuation. It fits into the narrative of Gdańsk: a city that has always been able to combine craftsmanship with modernity, tradition with innovation, history with everyday life.
The Mniszki Brygidki tenement houses
On the right bank of the canal, directly adjacent to the waterline, there are two residential buildings on Mniszki and Brygidki Streets. Their historic appearance, along with the investment at Wodopój, will also undergo a transformation.
Both buildings will be merged, and the combined interiors will accommodate 16 premises, including mezzanines. Historical values will be preserved thanks to elements such as winding staircases, fragments of half-timbered walls, and a beautiful, historic window. Direct contact with the canal will be emphasized by new balconies, the lowest of which will be located just 2.6 m above the water.

Heading north, we reach the European Solidarity Center, and then the Imperial Shipyard and Elektryków Street. Heading south, we discover the most historic urban fabric of the Main Town with the Golden Gate, Długa Street, St. Mary’s Basilica, Artus Court, Długi Targ, and the Shakespeare Theater at the forefront. Heading east, we reach the Museum of the Second World War, and then the banks of the Motława River and Ołowianka with the AmberSky observation wheel. Heading west, we immediately find ourselves at the Main Railway Station, and then Góra Gradowa and the Hevelianum Center.
Wodopój 5 is the essence of downtown life – an address where prestige meets functionality. On one side, it is surrounded by the historic heart of the city, full of theaters, museums, and historic alleys, and on the other, by the practical infrastructure of everyday life.
Shops and discount grocery stores, schools, and kindergartens are all within a few minutes’ reach, making family life easier.
The proximity of the railway station and a dense public transport network makes every journey a simple everyday occurrence. Trendy food halls, cafes, and restaurants set the pace for meetings with friends and moments of relaxation.

The apartments in Wodopój were designed as precisely tailored frames of the city. The glass facades open up to the panorama of the Old Town and Downtown, letting in light and views that change throughout the day.

The past and present meet in a single frame—in the line of roofs, towers, and modern forms that create a landscape in constant motion. The apartment at Wodopój is not an escape from the city, but its continuation — attentive, calm, full of light. Noble, muted colors dominate here: graphite, sandy gray, deep brown.

The interiors of the building have been designed to reflect the rhythm and energy of Gdańsk — they are open, intertwined with layers and details.
The harshness of concrete meets the warmth of natural wood, while the coolness of metal is broken up by soft carpet surfaces. This combination is no accident: instead of obvious harmony, a distinctive composition is created that attracts attention and stays in the memory.
