Revitalisation of historic casernes in Gdańsk city centre
The Old Garrison will once again shine and bring life to this part of the city center.
Back in 1889, in Herrengarten street in Gdansk, a construction project was completed, regarding an impressive building made out of red bricks. With 130 years of history behind it, the monumental, military building will now become the protagonist of a new chapter.

Rewitalizacja
Czerwone Koszary is a 19th-century building that used to be military barracks. After years of neglect, it's been given a new lease on life as part of the innovative Scala History development. It's the first residential complex in Poland to be restored in line with sustainable development principles, as confirmed by the prestigious BREEAM certificate.
The project involved not only the renovation of the historic urban fabric, but also the construction of new architecture in complete harmony with its surroundings. Thanks to a unique approach, technological innovations and respect for heritage, a space has been created that connects the past with the future.
Investment size
Scala History is a building consisting of three modules, adapted for systematic rental management. It comprises a historic building of monumental military barracks, a modern glass section connected to the historic building, and a new apartment building.
Interiors
Sustainable design
The interior design project was prepared with exceptional care. The aim was to find the perfect balance between composition and functionality. The designers were inspired by the historic barracks building. The red brick elements are a clear reference to the old architecture of Gdańsk. The green colour comes from the colour of the old window frames and refers to the military past of the old barracks. The oak wood used in the common areas is a reference to the historical foundations on which the historic buildings of Gdańsk were built. Its use in the interiors is intended to make the monumental space more cosy.

New life of the historical building
Today, the face and character of Długie Ogrody are changing once again. They have been included in Gdańsk’s revitalisation plan, which incorporates the Moderny Holding project. The former Red Barracks building is a landmark of Gdańsk. For years, it stood abandoned, dilapidated and forgotten. We decided to restore this place to its true Gdańsk character, while opening up a hidden space for the city’s residents.
